UCU lady Canons 69-68 KPA
Coming from a 52-64 deficit in the last 5 minutes of the game, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Canons managed to overturn a 12 point loss to edge Kenya Ports Authority in a thrilling encounter at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.
Canons’ Ritah Imanishimwe steered the comeback with a vital performance that yielded 28 points and 3 rebounds to record a 69-68 victory.
“It was a big game because KPA is one of the best teams in this tournament.
“We were so down as a team but i believe that my good shots saved the day,” Imanishimwe told ChimpReports.
It proved to be a difficult tussle for the Mukono-based side as they lost 11-17 in the first Quarter but they managed to rejuvenate themselves to score 18 more points to reduce the deficit by just a point at halftime.
KPA recorded 23 points and limited the Canons to just 18 points to take a 6 point lead at the end of the third Quarter.
It’s in the 4th quarter when Kiguyi’s team pulled up their socks and came out of the blocks amidst cheerful home fans to gather 22 points to KPA’s 15, winning 69-68 at the sound of the buzzer.
Imanishimwe and Vilma Achieng combined for 40 points with the later notching in 12 points as the Lady Canons cruised to their hard fought victory.
The victory is the second for the Canons who opened their Matchday one with a victory past Horseed of Somalia.
