KCCA Leopards 51-56 Equity

Playing infront of a home crowd, KCCA Leopards lost their first game of the 2017 Zone Five tournament at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

The current National Basketball League leaders suffered a 51-56 loss to Kenya’s Basketball side Equity.

Mercy Wanyama scored a game high 21 points to complete her double double that saw her picking 14 rebounds on a victorious day.

KCCA Leopards Roger Sserunyigo speaking after the Match told ChimpReports that:“We knew it was surely going to be a difficult affair though we tried our level best.”

“I believe we did not also have a good day because our ‘Big players’ in Martha Soigi and Muhayimina Namuwaya did not do enough and we looked poor inside the paint but we will come back stronger.”

Starting on Court with Cynthia Irakunda, Joy Chemutai, Larissa Katungeko, Nakazibwe ‘Balotelli’ Sylvia and Martha Soigi; the Leopards looked unconvincing though they took a 14-12 lead at the first Quarter.

The Kenyans came back stronger and scored 18 more points and hence took a slender 29-30 lead at half time.

The Leopards were out-played in the 3rd quarter losing 8-13 before tieing 13 all in the last quarter; an effort which was not enough in a game that changed leads on various occassions.

Chemutai scored 12 points and gathered 8 rebounds but her tally was not enough on the day.

Equity coach David Maina Gatane said that her team did better in all areas: “We out-played KCCA as we knew where their strength lied. We knew coming here that it was going to be a 4-team horse race that is UCU Ladies, KPA, KCCA and Equity.”
