Ladies: APR (RW) 45-57 KCCA Leopards (Ug)

One of Uganda’s ladies Basketball Club KCCA Leopards has opened the 2017 Zone V Basketball tournament with a routine 45-57 victory against Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) Basketball Club of Rwanda.

Martha Soigi and Joy Chemutai led the way with 20 and 17 points for the Ugandan-based Club in an intensive affair played at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo, with Larisa Katungeko picking 8 rebounds.

Chemutai had a bright start to the game when she scored 6 points as KCCA Leopards took a 14-16 lead in the first 10 minutes, and they never looked back on return to take a 22-25 lead at the long break.

It’s in the 3rd quarter when APR ran out of steam allowing the Leopards to break away, KCCA scoring 20 points as they limited the Rwandese outfits to only 9 points.

KCCA who are still unbeaten in the Uganda’s National Basketball League with 14 wins from 14 games, added12 points to seal a comfortable 45-57 victory.

KCCA Leopards, the team to beat

Having finished 5th in the last edition when they lost 72-27 in their last game against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) who eventually won the tourney, the Leopards have gradually improved since then.

An addition of Namuwaya Muhayimina to the roster, the former Dolphins’ player sparked brilliantly with her fellow players like Martha Soigi, Cynthia Irakunda and Joy Chemutai.

Playing in front of a home crowd is also an added advantage.

The Rest of the pack:

Other ladies teams include UCU Lady Canons (Uganda), Equity (Kenya), KPA (Kenya), Horseed (Somalia), APR (Rwanda), Don Bosco (Tanzania).

In the men’s category, the Pearl of Africa is represented by City Oilers (Defending Champions) and Betway Power).
