It is so far so good for the Uganda Men Basketball representatives Betway Power and City Oilers in the ongoing 2017 Zone Five tournament at the MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
Having won their opening Matchday one fixtures on Sunday, Power and Oilers returned with another bang as they fired past Ethiopian teams comfortably to register a 100% winning start with both sides scoring 100+ points in their victories.
With two slots available for the upcoming FIBA Africa Champions Cup tournament, Uganda’s basketball fraternity is hoping to walk away with those available slots against the other 6 competitors.
City Oilers 111-41 Hawasa City
The defending Champions who started on court with Jimmy Enabu, Jordan Mayez, Adarius Pegues, Landry Ndikumana and Robinson Opong struggled at the start against the minnows but later settled to take a 24-10 lead in the first quarter.
Hawasa were limited to only 8 points in the second quarter as Juruni’s side took a comfortable 49-18 lead.
More 37 and 25 points in the following quarters sealed a 111-41 victory.
Ndikumana collected 14 points and 10 rebounds but it was Mayez Jordan who led the scoring charts with 16 points.
“These new additions Mayez Jordan have given us a new dimension, we are learning a lot from them. We may not have faced a difficult opponent yet but i believe we look good to go,” City Oilers Stephen Omony said after the victory.
Betway Power 113-31 Gonder City
After defeating ABC team by a 87-55 victory on Sunday, Betway Power took the momentum on matchday two to sweep aside Gonder City.
Guddi Nasser once again had another day to remember when he scored a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
It was Willy Nijimbere who cheered up the boys, converting 6 of his 11 shots from downtime to take his tally to 21 points as Arnold Lando sealed a 113-31 victory.
