Teso Youths under their umbrella body, viagra buy Teso Regional Youth Council have petitioned government through the Ministry of Gender and Social Development to start funding the Sub County youth councils in a bid to enhance youth engagement in government programs.
In their petition signed by over 500 youth leaders drawn from all district youth councils, Sub County Youth councils and Parish Youth councils, the team asserts that government has to look for ways to fund their councils to make this happen.
Led by the National Youth Council Chairperson Ms. Lillian Aber and the Counsel Secretary for Publicity Samuel Odongo, the team expressed concern that many for the government programs destined to help the youth have failed due to improper monitoring and poor mobilization.
They say most of the Government projects for the youth are not well researched mainly because the local council leaders are not empowered.
Speaking at the petition signing at Kumi Hotel on Tuesday, Ms. Aber said government must invest more in youth matters who make up majority of the population.
“We are the majority now and we deserve specialized treatment. The government cannot abandon us anymore,” she said.
Mrs Abel added that Uganda has a lot of untapped talents in the largely unemployed youth population.
She also attributed the formation of the numerous mafia groups in the country to unemployment among the youth.
On his part, the National Publicity Secretary for the National Youth Council, Samuel Odongo also defended funding for the sub county councils saying they have too many responsibilities.
