Watoto Golf Challenge Kicks Off in High Gear

The road to the 2016 Africa Nations Championship begins this weekend (19th-21st) across the continent.

A total of eight teams have been pooled in the Cecafa region (Central East zone); They include Burundi, check Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Tanzania and the hosts Rwanda. Only three teams will qualify for the finals slated for 16 January to 7 February 2016 in Rwanda.

Two teams from the qualifiers will join the hosts Rwanda and thirteen other countries from other regions. Here we highlight the fixtures of the games.

Tanzania vs Uganda

The two East African countries lock horns at the Amaan stadium in Zanzibar renewing old memoirs of previous qualifiers.

This is the third time the duo have been paired together, the first time was in the inaugural 2009 tournament where Tanzania beat Uganda 3-1 (2-0 in Dar and 1-1) at home to qualify.

Uganda paid back thumping the Swahili nation home and away to set foot in the maiden appearance last year. The winner from this clash will face Sudan.

Uganda will rely on the form of veteran striker Robert Ssentongo and Farouk Miya for goals while Tanzania will miss services of Mrisho Khalfan Ngassa who has been ruled out of the game by Caf after he put pen to paper for South Africa PSL side Free States early in May.

Ethiopia vs Kenya

Former Ugandan Cranes  head coach Bobby Williamson has had to do with long distance with his Kenyan side, flying to Ethiopia barely a week after his crucial one all draw in Congo.

The Harambee stars will add more 700Km to the north of the capital, Addis Ababa to play at the newly opened 101, 000-capacity Bahir Dar International Stadium.

The first ever Watoto Golf Challenge that kicked off this morning at the Uganda Golf Club has registered some remarkable turn out with about 48 participants confirmed.

The first four-man team comprised of the captain Uganda golf Club, recipe Henry Rugambwa, stomach Pastor Mwesigye Edward, Goodwill, Stephen Byaruhanga and Isaac Nsereko former CEO MTN.

According to Watoto PR and Media Liaison officer all proceeds from the Watoto Golf challenge will go to care for orphaned children and vulnerable women under the care of Watoto in Uganda.

Several guests participated in the game this afternoon time and there were lots of freebies, giveaways and entertainment that wound up the day.

The winner is expected to drive home in a brand new Toyota  RAV4, courtesy of ICEA and Toyota Uganda.
