Uganda’s representatives (Vipers) in the 2017 Total CAF confederation cup earned a narrow victory against Platinum stars in the game played on Saturday.

Milton Kalisa got the lone goal as Vipers got a perfect start on their maiden game at the newly constructed St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende.

Mike Sserumaga almost put Vipers ahead  inside the opening three minutes from a free kick but his effort ricocheted off the woodwork.

Three minutes later, Deus Bukenya also had an attempt at goal about 30 yards from goal but missed the target by a few inches.

The hosts who kept surging forward with full backs Dan Bilikwalira and Nicholas Wadada laying up several crosses.

Erisa Ssekisambu who started as the centre forward blew up two successive chances at the half hour mark failing to find the target off a header while fumbling the other inside the box.

Milton Kaliisa gave Vipers the lead a minute after recess heading home Nicholas Wadada’s long ball past goalkeeper Mzimela Mbongeni to send the fully packed stadium into a frenzy.

Boginkonsi Ntuli had his goal disallowed in the 61st minute when he was ruled for offside by assistant referee Moabi Canisius Makara.

Vipers were forced to make changes with Ssekisambu and Brian Nkuubi limping off after sustaining injuries and were replaced by Tony Odur and Keziron Kizito respectively.

The two sides will meet for the return leg at the Royal Bafokerg stadium on 18th March 2017.
