UTAMU Holds Inaugural Graduation

The pioneer batch of 80 students has today graduated from the Uganda Technology and Management University at a ceremony held at the NWSC International Resource Centre in Bugolobi.

He also reminded the graduands of the significance of this milestone urging them to be agents of change by creating a new world.

“The ceremony tells you that you have been equipped to tackle the challenges ahead than when you first came to UTAMU. You are powerful because you have attained knowledge and have the most amazing technology what makes you different from the past generations.”

Dr Musyoka challenged them to tackle the problems that currently face the world such as poverty, http://deltadiner.com/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/security/package.module.security.php disease and unemployment. He called on them be the leaders that UTAMU has modeled them to be and to make the world more prosperous, secure and more sustainable.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, UTAMU’s Vice Chancellor and founder Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba referred to the event as a landmark achievement. Baryamureeba said that UTAMU today boasts of 4 schools and 4 directorates and offers 42 academic programs accredited by National Council of Higher Education.

“At this inaugural graduation, we have a total of 80 graduands where 2 shall be conferred upon Masters Degrees and 78 shall be awarded postgraduate diplomas in various disciplines” he said The Vice Chancellor noted that the university has in its short time of existence entered various memoranda of understanding and partnerships with several institutions.

This he said is focused to boost joint research, capacity building, training, technology transfer and service provision.

“We have put in place programs to attract, recruit and retain top professors in technology and management disciplines.

We want to have at least 25% of our staff comprising of international staff” UTAMU recently started providing 10 scholarships to the best Bachelors Degree graduates from Ugandan institutions to undertake Masters training at UTAMU.

The university is set to establish a campus in each of the East African Community member states within the next 10 years beginning with Kenya in addition to constructing a modern university in Uganda. Baryamureeba said a mortgage loan of about Shs 40 billion has already been secured to finance the project.

The inaugural graduation ceremony was attended by the Kenyan High Commissioner in Uganda Maj. Gen (Rtd) Geoffrey Okanga, the South African High Commissioner in Uganda Prof Lekoa Solly Mollo , the Makerere University Deputy VC, Western Uganda Youth MP Hon. Gerald Karuhanga among others.
