Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi has revealed that the government will launch  the Uganda Premier League players’ savings and credit cooperative (SACCO) on Thursday 3rd November 2015.

The minister was speaking during Express FC-DSTV sponsorship unveiling ceremony at the Golf course on Thursday morning.

“Next week on 3rd (November), we shall be unveiling the players sacco programme to cover over 400 players who are in the league,” Nakiwala revealed.

“We have done this in partnership with the Uganda premier league and the Ministry of Education and Sports. We don’t want players to rely only on match day and training bonuses besides their salary.”

Under the arrangement, licensed topflight players will receive loans repayable at yet to be revealed interests rates and invest in income generating business besides their football lives.

Fufa super league board will play the supervisory role and the clubs ensure the loans are recovered through salaries and allowances.

“It’s time to empower our players and youths economically if we are to get good results from them. We no longer want to see them leaving like beggars,” the minister added.
