UPDF Sergeant Pinned in Shs. 100million Airtime Robbery

Two witnessed this afternoon appeared before Makindye General Court Martial, treat http://celiac-disease.com/wp-includes/nav-menu.php pinning three people including a UPDF Sergeant for stealing Airtel airtime worth Shs. 100million and Shs. 30Million cash from Cooper Complex in Kampala on 5th January 2013.

The three suspects, dosage Sgt William Acheda, Moses Kasiita and Henry Kabugo are facing charges related to aggravated robbery.

The fourth prosecution witness in the matter Detective Emmanuel Abwama, a CIID officer attached to Katwe Police station informed court that on 10th January 2013 he recorded a statement from the accused UPDF sergeant William Acheda who admitted to have been involved in the robbery.

The witness said Acheda told him he was used by colleagues to put on gun point all the people who were at the shop where the money was robbed and later was driven back to Luzira where he was a guard in one of the homes.

The fifth prosecution witness was Edmund Kwesiga, a mobile phone accessory dealer in Nakulabye told court he was arrested among other people who bought the stolen airtime.

He said he learnt about someone selling cheap airtime from a friend.

“We agreed to meet with the sellers in Mulago where two people came with the Airtime in a bag but before finalizing the deal, we were arrested and taken to CPS.

However, it emerged during today’s session that this case had earlier been formally dropped by DPP Mike Chibita. The Defense counsel Frank Kanduho in cross examination presented two withdraw forms.

One of the form was dated 21st October 2015 withdrawing case file number  CPS CRB/359/2013 and another letter dated 13th April 2015 withdrawing case file number CRB/047/2015 both letters signed by the DPP.

Court chairman Lt Gen Andrew Gutti adjourned the hearing of this matter to 20th December this year.
