ADF is a Ugandan Islamist rebel force whose presence has been reported in the Beni territory of North Kivu Province since 1995.
Its known overall objective is to overthrow the Government of Uganda and to place a Muslim in power.
The Movement faced a huge blow when its Supreme Commander Jamil Mukulu was arrested in Tanzania before being handed over to Ugandan authorities.
According to Ugandan intelligence officers, Mukulu was responsible for the strategic and ideological direction of the rebel group as well as for overseeing extensive financial support networks.
He is thought to be detained at the Police’s Special Operations Base at Nalufenya, Jinja.
ADF is a highly secretive organization without a traditional military ranking system.
Hood Lukwago took over the entire operations of the ADF after Mukulu’s deputy; Seka Musa Baluku was arrested in Tanzania in 2015.
