He said that with such investments by Government and other private sector actors, story Ugandans will soon be able to have health care needs attended within Uganda.
The Premier was speaking at the Plaque unveiling for the Land Grant and Initiation ceremony of The Aga Khan University Hospital, Kampala. The function took place at Serena Hotel in Kampala.
The Plaque unveiling for the Land Grant and Initiation ceremony for The Aga Khan University teaching Hospital follows an earlier ground breaking ceremony, which was performed by President Museveni and His Highness The Aga Khan at Nakawa.
Rugunda thanked His Highness The Aga Khan for his long standing commitment to the social and economic development of Uganda. He said Government was committed to provide quality healthcare to the people through Public-Private Partnerships.
He said the Aga Khan Hospital will save lives and will impact not only on Uganda but the entire region. ‘The Aga Khan University Hospital will do for healthcare what the Serena has done for hospitality in Uganda’, adding, ‘This investment will have a ripple effect on development throughout the country, improving quality of life for all’.
His Highness The Aga Khan appreciated the warm welcome he received in Uganda. He said that without Government support, the Public–Private partnership cannot be possible.
‘We need to build a global standard healthcare system in sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.
He added that producing medical professionals was a long complex matter that The Aga Khan was willing to embark on.
‘We are working on the concept of integrated regional health system to consolidate health delivery services in the region.”
The first phase of construction will be completed in 2020 with the establishment of a 150-bed tertiary hospital. The ultimate vision is for the Hospital to grow toward 600 beds in phases of development over time.
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has come out to contest international media reports that Uganda received casualties of last month’s clash between ADF rebels and the Democratic Republic of Congo army.

He said the team in what he termed as a surprise, landed in Ntoroko, went to Kibuuku and Rwamabale health centers checking for the ADF rebel casualties being treated in these health facilities.
According to Col. Antonio the team leader, they found no rebel victims being treated in the facilities.
Speaking to our reporter on Friday, Lt.Nsamba said, “As they army, we totally condemn such annoying rumors. We make a lot of alliances, but certainly not with the ADF rebels who terrorized and caused havoc in this very region”.
The army mouthpiece said the region is calm and peaceful and people should not panic.
The ADF have reportedly been re-organizing in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after being flashed out of the Rwenzori Mountains.
