UPDF Colonel Blamed for Death of 19 Colleagues Released on Bail

The Makindye General Court Martial

The Makindye General Court Martial has Tuesday granted bail to Lt Col Johnbosco Mutumbi who is charged with failure to brief which resulted in the death of 19 UPDF Soldiers on the Amisom Mission in Somalia.

Court Martial chairman Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti released Mutumbi after court was satisfied with the substantiality of his sureties who included mostly senior UPDF officers.

Mutumbi was released on non-cash bond of 5million shillings and 2million non-cash for each of his sureties.

Court Chairman Gen Gutti thereafter adjourned this case to September 5th for mention.

Lt. Col. Mutumbi has been on remand at Makindye Military police barracks since last month on charges of failure to brief his subordinates.

Prosecution says that on the 1st September 2015 at Janaar in Somalia, patient the accused neglected his commanding duties which resulted into an Al-Shabaab attack on the UPDF camp in which 19 soldiers died.
