Non-teaching staff in public universities have called off the sit-down strike they had staged over remuneration, after meeting with the State Minister for Planning,  David Bahati in Kampala.

This was revealed by the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) non-teaching staff Chairman Charles Kakuru, during a press briefing held Monday evening at Classic hotel in Mbarara.

“Today, all non-teaching staffs in public universities have called off the strike which started as a result of  unfair distribution of salary enhancement in all public universities,” he said

Kakuru revealed that the university cabinets of all public universities sat with the minister to discuss pay rise in the next financial year and this was agreed upon by both parties.

“We agreed that our salaries would be doubled in the next financial year and arrears cleared. As non-teaching staff we agreed that this is a fair deal and we accepted to return to work in  respect to what transpired in that meeting” he said

The chairman thanked all his colleagues for the joining in the cause and called upon all support staff to resume work beginning today Tuesday.
