Uganda’s Lalam Wins Gold at Commonwealth Games

Josephine Joyce Lalam won Uganda the first medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth games in Nassau, Bahamas.

Lalam who featured for Uganda in Javelin, threw her personal best to emerge winner on Saturday.

The 16-year-old set out a distance of 51.89 meters to fend off competition from Australia’s Bowyer Ellie Frances who finished second.

Frances settled for second spot taking silver with 50.64 meters while England’s Howe Emma won the bronze medal with 47.04 meters.

Lalam is of the three participants that Uganda sent to Bahamas and was the only one who won the medal.

Swimmer Atuhaire Ogola Ambala couldn’t get past the preliminaries in all the categories he competed in.

These included 200 m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 400m individual medley.

Sarah Chelangat settled for 4th and 10th in the 3000m and 1500m respectively.
