Officials in Uganda’s tourism industry on Monday saw a weeklong continental exhibition fair in South Africa, come to close at on an exciting note.
Uganda’s team showcased a number of the country’s best products at the Tourism INDABA 2015 expo held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
Today as the event closed, Uganda’s stand was handed the Gold Award in the Best African Exhibitor category.
The news was received joyfully by Uganda exhibitors as well as officials at the Ugandan Embassy in South Africa.
Uganda High Commissioner to South Africa Mr Julius Moto said the award was a big step towards development of Uganda’s tourism sector.
“During the year 2014, the Pretoria Embassy insisted that the Annual Tourism INDABA in Durban is a ??must attend by Uganda…and here we are …winning and getting businesses, for income and job creation in Uganda,” remarked Mr Moto.
According to officials in Durban, Uganda’s stand attracted a lot of tourists, about 75% of whom were from outside Africa. There was also a Uganda Night at the Indaba Fair held at MOYO Restaurant at Ushaka Marine
“Uganda had great presentation courtesy of the UTB. And as distinct destination being on the Africa grounds we are thrilled to promote the continent,” said one of the officials.
The INDABA Expo is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar and one of the top three ‘must visit’ events of its kind on the global calendar.
It is ranked Africa’s best travel and tourism show by the Association of World Travel Awards
It showcases the widest variety of Africa’s best tourism products, and attracts international buyers and media from across the world.
