Uganda To Mark World Cancer Day

The Ministry of Health has Friday announced the program to mark the World Cancer Day held on February 4th to spread awareness of cancer and its dangers.

Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng revealed that this year’s celebrations will be held under the theme “We can; I can;” to inspire individuals and society at large to reduce the burden of cancer.

While addressing the media at the Ministries headquarters, what is ed Aceng emphasized that a large number of unnecessary deaths and sufferings from cancer can be prevented but it requires collaborative action both at individual and collective levels.

“Cancer affects everyone in different ways and everyone has power to take action to reduce the impact that cancer has,” she said.

Evidence indicates that more than a third of all cancers are prevented through simple lifestyle measures such as stopping smoking ,eating healthy foods with less fats , salts and sugars but more of fresh fruits and vegetables, keeping physically active and reducing alcohol use.

In 2017, it is estimated that there will be 14million new cases of cancer world over while 8million people will die from the disease.
