The Uganda Police in their efforts to improve officers’ welfare through extra income, have hit the bakeries market with a brand new product.
The Police announced on social media that they have started producing bread, a project currently based in Masindi.
The bread making initiative, according to Police Spokesperson Asan Kasingye is under the Exodus Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited, (Exodus Sacco).
The bakery is stationed at the Police Force’s Training School in Kabalye, Masindi.
They say the product under the name ‘Kabalye Sweet Bread’ goes for Shs 4000 (1kg) and half a Kg goes for Shs 2000.
The Police Sacco was launched in 2007 has a membership of over 20000 serving officers and their families. By 2014 it had total assets in excess of Shs. 7 billion, making it the second biggest Sacco after UPDF’s Wazalendo Sacco.
“We are not allowed as Police to get involved in businesses, so we run such projects through the Sacco,” said Kasingye. “In fact I was the first chairman of the Exodus Sacco.”
