The MTDP was launched by Rift Valley Railway in line with its parent company Qalaa Holdings (formerly Citadel Capital) as part of their commitment to sustain education and human resource capital for the infrastructure development across the region.

The program was inaugurated in July 2013 with 20 students and the second group which began training in September 2014 graduated yesterday. Speaking during the graduation ceremony, http://cyberstudio.biz/main/plugins/content/joomla/joomla.php RVR Group CEO Carlos Andrade confirmed that human capital development was at the core of RVR’s turn around program.

“The core of the issue of human capital development is people. It is about investing in people and recognizing them as the greatest asset and national resource for creating wealth and prosperity. The returns on such investment are inestimable but high.” Andrade said.

Information from RVR reveals that as the first regional railway company, RVR sees the need to embed students into their operations as a way of augmenting railway skills for the region for both the metre and the standard gauge rail having experienced skill deterioration due to no investment for over 26 year before the concession agreement.

“We take a very wide view on what constitutes our duties as responsible investors,” said Ghada Hammouda, chief marketing officer Qalaa holdings.

“In that sense, we are careful to invest in education and training not for the direct benefit of our company or our subsidiaries, but for the benefit of the communities in which we do business,” he added.

The recruitment process for the third group of trainees is underway both in Kenya and Uganda.
