Bright Stars will battle Bul FC in the Uganda Cup Quarter Finals

Uganda will be looking forward to breaking the 37 year jinx after their last appearance in the 1978 finals held in Ghana where they  were runners up after losing  to hosts.

Botswana just like Uganda is a landlocked country located in the southern Africa sitting in an area of approximately 581, 730 Km2 with a population of slightly higher than two million people.

Best glory days

The Zebras, having never qualified for the World cup nor AfCon since they started actively competing in 1994, they stunned many by being the first country to qualify for the AFCON 2012 at the expense of African giants, Tunisia who they beat home and away, beating Chad, and also Togo before drawing both fixtures with Malawi.

By then, only one of their players plied his trade outside Botswana together with a local coach Stanleey Tshosane.

However in Afcon they didn’t manage to get a single point. That was their first and only. Before achieving that fete, their only accomplishment in Afcon was a 1-0 win over Madagascar in 2002. In addition to that, they were chosen the best African National team for 2011.

Botswana are ranked (as at 9th April 2015) at position 104 worldwide and 29th in the continent, 10 below Uganda. Their best ever rank was in December 2010 when they were 53rd globally while November 1999 was their worst year at 165.

They are currently coached by former West Bromwich Albion midfielder, Peter James Butler Previous meetings with Uganda;

Bright stars and Bul fc clash in the second fixture of the Uganda Cup last 8, viagra 60mg barely three days after today’s host were thumped 3-0 at Kakindu in a league game.

Three goals from Hood Mayanja, case Osama Farouq and skipper Crespo Asiku ensured Bul rises to top five at the expense of the Matugga side.

The Monday opponents have never met before in the cup, neither has progressed beyond this stage.

The last time they met at Bright stars home (Lugogo), hosts defeated the Jinja side by a solitary goal scored by keeper Mathias Kigonya (free kick).

Bright Stars eliminated second tier team, Paidha Black Angels by 2-0 away in Barokoro stadium with goals Hassan Kikoyo and Anthony Bongole. Oringa Franco was the hero as Bul thrashed Kira Young by 3-1 on penalties at Namboole in the last 16.

The game had ended goalless.

Team news

Uganda U23 keeper, Mathias Kigonya is expected to start ahead of Davies Mutebi, who could be suffering fatigue after a grueling Friday soggy match and former Bul Fc loanee, Kivumbi Martin may also be given a starting berth.

No injury concerns for interim coach Joseph Mutyaba, as  full backs, Umar Mukobe and Johnson Lumansi have been deemed fit.

Forward, Tito Okello will be eligible for selection after missing Friday’s game due to suspension.

“It will be a tougher game since they too want a trophy. But we shall put up a very good show putting aside the previous results,” coach Mutyaba told ChimpSport.

He added, “Cup games are different from league, there are no rooms for error!”
