UFL: Nkumba Dump Martyrs to Book Final Date with KU

Nkumba university have booked a place in the 2016 University Football League finals despite picking a one all draw at Nkozi against Uganda Martyrs university.

The visitors carried a 1-0 advantage from the first leg which was courtesy of Fred Gwokto’s early strike in the reverse fixture.

The saints’ hopes of to overcome the first leg slip steamed the team to an early attack and were unlucky not to hit the target in the third minute after a swinger from the left wing found Douglas Owori unmarked in the far post but his thumping header rose beyond expectations.

Owori had another chance minutes later with a free space to weave into the box but opted to send a missile which skewed out of target with Yiga already beaten in Nkumba goal.

The striker was not finished yet with his continuous attack yielding in the 27th minute from a through pass which he calmly lifted over an advancing Yiga to drop inside the net for the opener.

Martin Seruwagi grabbed the equaliser for Nkumba just five minutes after the recess from a freekick after beating the wall to hide the ball in the near post.

The martyrs stepped up their attacking surge but Nkumba were equal to the task and held until the last minute.

Nkumba qualify through to the finals winning the semifinal 2-1 on aggregate, discount setting a mouthwatering final against Kampala University who edged Makererere on superior away goal after another 1-1 stalemate on Wednesday.
