UFL: Nkumba ‘Crucify’ Martyrs to Earn Semis First Leg Advantage

Nkumba University continued with their dominance over Uganda Martyrs following a 1-0 victory in the first leg if the semi finals of the 2016 University football league.

The match was played on Thursday afternoon at Nkumba. Fred Gwoto grabbed the winner for the hosts in the 13th minute with a stunning strike that flew past a trying Herman Ssekyewa in the visitors’ goal.

The goal hero was later awarded the man of the match gong which was presented by Soana FC coach Sam Simbwa.

The martyrs reciprocated with a quick attack through Owori and Kamya but the latter’s final product was easily tamed by Joseph Yoga in a one on one situation.

UMU has now gone four matches without a result in all their visits to Nkumba with the infamous 11-0 humiliation in 2013 still fresh in the minds.

Nkumba qualified for this stage at the expense of Gulu University who they defeated 1-0 on aggregate while UMU went through on away goal advantage after a three all aggregate against Uganda Christian University.

Kampala University and Makerere had played to a goalless draw at the Maroons stadium in Luzira. The second legs will be played on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th November respectively.
