UFL: Holders Kampala University Draw MUBS in Quarterfinals

The stage is set for the knockout phase of the 2017 University Football League after a successful completion of the group games.

On Friday morning, the organising committee conducted the draws for the quarterfinals of this years tournament in a press briefing held at Kati Kati restaurant, Lugogo in Kampala.

Defending champions MUBS have been drawn against giants Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in a mouthwatering clash.

Kampala University who were in group C alongside Bugema, St.Lawrence and Kumi University led the group with 12 points.

Under the stewardship of Titi Camara, the Gaba based university will be seeking to win the title for the third time having won it last year and in 2013.

On the other hand, MUBS finished second in group D with 15 points and are coached by Charles Ayieko, the head coach at Kirinya Jinja SS.

In the other quarterfinal fixtures, Makerere University who won the inaugural edition in 2012 will play Gulu University.

Last season’s finalists Nkumba University will take on Kyambogo University while Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi will lock horns with UCU.

The first leg fixtures are slated to start on 17th October with the return legs expected to be played a week later. The final is scheduled for 25th November at Mandela National stadium.

Holders Kampala University defeated Nkumba University last year to win the title.
