Traffic Officer Killed in Masaka Road Accident

At least three people including a traffic police boss have been confirmed dead and nine others critically injured in a motor accident along Kampala-Masaka road.

Deus Kweyamba, approved the Kalungu District Traffic Officer together with 3 other people including a fuso turn boy died on spot and 9 were critically injured in the accident which involved in 6 vehicles.

According to Ibin Senkumbi, the Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, the accident happened at Mukoko village, Bukulula in Kalungu District along the Kampala-Masaka highway and the cause of the accident had not yet been established.

Residents of Mukono village however say there was a lot of mist in the road which could have resulted into the accident.

Senkumbi said the accident which occurred at around 5:40am involved two buses; a Jaguar registration number UAT 728F that was coming from Kampala heading to Kigali, Rwanda and a Volcano registration number RAD 793B heading to Kampala.

Other vehicles included a fuso truck no.UAV 860B carrying soda which hit the traffic officer who landed on top of the double cabin no.UAD 712 and rammed into a trailer Reg. no. UAV 384E respectively.

All wreckages of the vehicles were towed to Masaka Central Police Station while the bodies of the deceased and the injured persons were taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment and post mortem.

Senkumbi confirmed that more than 50 people survived and blamed the accidents on reckless driving and overspeeding.
