Tourism Ministry Taps Into Queen of Katwe

Fiona Mutesi and Robert Katende are the new Tourism Ambassadors for Uganda

The Ministry of Tourism has Friday unveiled two new ambassadors whose role is to market the country to the rest of the world.

The new ambassadors are “The Queen of Katwe” Phiona Mutesi and Robert Katende her chess coach.

While addressing the media at Ministry Of Tourism headquarters (Rwenzori courts) the Minister of State Tourism, medications Wildlife and Antiquities Hon Godfrey Kiwanda said with no doubt he knows that the two will bring a positive spin off for the country.

“As government our mandate to market the country is certainly made easier when Ugandans achieve great things on the world stage like the Queen of Katwe movie which has sold Uganda” he said.

“The movie Queen of Katwe received international recognition and nods thus giving our country a lot of acknowledgment from around the globe which made many people interested to know more about Uganda.”

Speaking on the new role, malady Coach Robert Katende they have sufficient limelight that will help promote Uganda’s Tourism on the world market and they are doing for their movie.

“We are excited to represent Uganda, more about and the first words that will come out of us when we are out there, is to invite the world to come here,” said Katende.

The development comes shortly after Uganda has been named among the top 10 most beautiful destinations and just last week the 4th best place to visit in the Africa.

“As proof of this ranking, Uganda hosted no less than 170,000 tourists in 2016 and it had a great economic impact while this year about 3.4 trillion shillings is expected to be contributed to the Ugandan economy” Hon Kiwanda said.
