Tooro Kingdom has announced lifting the ban on leasing of land in the kingdom.

His majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguuru Rukidi IV had prohibited leasing out kingdom land after people started mismanaging and grabbing it.

The move, according to Kaliba, is aimed at getting revenue for the kingdom and developing it.

The premier said the leases only go to local investors and take 49 years to be renewed.

The land to be leased is located at block 72, block 73 among others.

He said the kingdom intends to enable locals with land titles to acquire loans from financial institutions so that they can set up poverty eradication projects.

This was after the kingdom amended the land policy and instituted a new trust land committee.

The Prime Minister said Tooro wants its subjects “to start projects which will offer employment opportunities to the people so they can feel more proud of their cultural institution.”

Kaliba further disclosed that the private investors will be encouraged to promote tourism in the Tooro Kingdom by developing tourist attractions such as hotels and cultural sites among others.
