The wrangles developed as the Ministry of Education, ask Science, advice Technology and Sports proposed that the funds should be accessed by teachers through the Microfinance Support Centre (MFSC) which UNATU opposed.
UNATU hold that the agreement and the guidelines between MOES and MFSC should be rescinded since it clearly indicates that the fund will benefit the Fund Managers at the expense of the intended beneficiaries.
“All our members and teachers’ SACCO countrywide are hereby informed that the Union has sought both internal and external alternative funding to support the Teachers’ SACCOs,” Tweheyo noted.
Tweheyo called on any teacher SACCOs interested in loans to submit applications to the Apex Union of the Teachers’ SACCOs for processing.
“Owing to the fact that the 90 days’ ultimatum given to Government has not been taken seriously and to date the issue of the Teachers’ 10% salary increment for FY 2015/16, UNATU will continue engaging the responsible authorities on this matter and if it remains unresolved by the beginning of the next school term, we will withdraw our labor and not report for term two.”
