Police in Mbarara has in detention 2 men who were arrested outside the Deputy Resident District Commissioner’s office “looking suspicious.”
The arrested are Alexander Mwesigye 34, a resident of Byafura Mbarara, and Davies Tayebwa a S.4 Student at Ngabo Academy S.S.
These were arrested by four police officers whose attention was drawn to the suspects’ odd behavior.
The duo on interrogation however, appeared to be criminals dealing in drugs in neighboring Rwanda according to police authorities.
Alexander Mwesigye claimed during interrogation that he is a technician in Rwanda but police says he was found by deputy RDC Justus Mbarame with a number of marijuana sticks and transport documents as well as recommendation letters.
Mbarara RDC Capt. Martha Asiimwe, alluding to President Yoweri Museveni’s message yesterday blamed the Chairman LC 1 Byafura Cell Steven Okecho for recommending someone like Mwesigye to the Immigration office.
“The two never had national IDs; they only had a letter from LC1 which was sending them to immigration,” the RDC told reporters.
Capt. Martha asked locals to embrace neighborhood watch to avoid such cases as last week’s callous murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
“I want to call upon people in Mbarara to stop sitting comfortably in offices because for people these days, seeing blood is not an issue,’’ she said warned.
The two suspects are being held at Mbarara Police Station.
