Sugarcane Out-growers Read Shs170m Budget

The money is going to be spent on sensitizing farmers and constructing an office

Sugarcane outgrowers in Busoga sub region under their umbrella association Busoga Sugarcane Outgrowers Association have today read their budget for the financial year 2017/18 worth Shs170m.

According to Hassan Ssembera, the association’s vice chairman priority areas in their budget are sensitizing farmers and construction of the office building for the association.

“We shall traverse Busoga sensitizing our members on especially best ways of growing cane and planting food crops alongside sugar cane,” Ssembera said.

The budget was unveiled to farmers delegates meeting held at Kakira sugar plantation farmers hall on Friday.

The outgrowers have through their association exploited the advantage of the many sugar factories in Busoga to advocate for increase of cane prices from Shs41,000 per turn to Shs100,000 per turn due to price competition.
