Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Patrick Mugoya, on October 6 hosted his counterpart from Sudan, Amb. El Ghani Elnaim Award Elkarim, Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for a Political Consultative Meeting.

The meeting was in line with the directive of the Final Communique at the conclusion of the visit to Sudan by President Yoweri Museveni on September 16, 2015.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of the 2015 visit by President Museveni to Khartoum during which he expressed the wish for the strengthening of relations between Uganda and Sudan.

The two Heads of State therefore affirmed the need for mutual cooperation and positions towards regional and global issues, and the need to revitalize political and diplomatic coordination in all fora in order to counter challenges that face the region and Africa as a whole.

In his remarks, Mugoya warmly welcomed his counterpart and commended the Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs for being at the forefront of development.

Mugoya also expressed his gratitude towards the Government of Sudan for the Scholarships Uganda receives annually.

He further noted that there were no direct transportation links to Sudan from Uganda.

Sudan remains a key destination for Ugandan products especially coffee.

Undersecretary Elkarim expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation.

He extended an invitation to Mugoya to visit Sudan.

The meeting reviewed and updated the matrix on implementation of previous decisions that include various areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting also agreed that Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries follow up on the implementation of all the outstanding decisions with relevant agencies in their respective countries and report to the 6th Joint Ministerial Committee.

The meeting recommended that the 6th JMC be held in Kampala before the State visit to Uganda by President Omar El Bashir and the 3rd JPCC be held in Khartoum within six months.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both Ministries of Foreign Affairs Uganda and Sudan.
