Stormers beach soccer team were crowned champions of the inaugural Muwanguzi memorial tournament on Sunday after defeating MUBS in the finals.
Stormers defeated MUBS 2-1 at Lido beach to win the tournament organised in memory of the late Samson Muwanguzi.
Former Entebbe FC player Ibrahim Mpengere was the star of the day scoring a brace in the finals despite MUBS pulling one back through Maxwell Okello.
To reach the finals, site Stormers defeated league defending champions Nkumba Select 3-1 in the semifinals while MUBS edged past Talented (2-1).
Muwanguzi who was the owner of Lido beach and played an integral role in promoting the game of beach soccer in Uganda but passed away last year.
In a way of appreciating his efforts, there the Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) led by Deo Mutabazi organised a one day tournament that was enlisted on the beach soccer calender and will be an annual event.
Edward Bakidde of Buganda Royal Institute emerged the top scorer with 6 goals while Kirya Samson of Stormers who also plays for SC Villa was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
The tournament on its maiden attempt attracted a total of 19 teams and is expected to be staged every year.
