State, Mumbere Strike Deal to Have Him Released on Bail

The state has struck a deal to have Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere released on bail.

On Monday afternoon during the hearing of his bail application, information pills Mumbere’s lawyers led by Caleb Alaka told the Jinja High Court Judge Michael Elubu that since the re-arrest of the Rwenzururu king on January 13, price 2017 , negotiations on how to release him have been ongoing before an agreement was reached.

“In line with Article 126 of the Constitution, we held various discussions between the applicant (Omusinga) and the state. We pray that you accept the conditions as agreed upon by both parties,” Alaka told the judge.

According to the lawyer, in relation to the conditions set earlier by Jinja High Court judge Eva Luswata while granting him the first bail, Omusinga had accepted to be given UPDF royal guards as part of his security detail.

He also told court that it was agreed the Omusinga be given police guards to his home and personal security.

“He was asked not to step foot in Kasese, Bundibugyo and Kabarole districts but only move in Jinja, Kampala and Wakiso districts,”noted Alaka.

“They agreed that he should have unlimited access to his lawyers and personal doctor and that in case of any other visitors, he should inform the police officers in charge of his security.The applicant agreed to all these conditions.”

The lawyers added that it was agreed that in case of a breach of any of these conditions, the state would be at liberty to ask court to cancel his bail.

The lawyers also presented a set of sureties including State Minister for Agriculture Christopher Kibanzaga to stand for Omusinga.

State prosecution through Counsel Mrgeret Nakigudde also confirmed the dialogue with the defense side.

The Judge is expected on rule on the bail later today before 5:30
