Muslims planning to make the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) have been told to beware of fraudsters alleging to get them sponsorship from State House.
“It has come to the notice of State House management that some unscrupulous characters are soliciting for money from unsuspecting members of the Muslim community, claiming they will get them funding from State House,” reads a statement by Don Wanyama, Senior Press Secretary to His Excellency the President.
Wanyama writes that following a tip from a vigilant member of the public, two such suspects have been arrested and are currently detained at Wakiso Police Station, awaiting the due process of the law.
He explains that when “President Yoweri Museveni offers to sponsor pilgrims for Hajj, the beneficiaries are identified in a structured manner in conjunction with other key stakeholders like the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.”
The sponsorship is free and no one should pay money on claims of being included on a list of pilgrims, he adds.
