The dramatic development comes just a few days after a notice appeared on social media platforms showing Mirundi’s job as being advertised.

The ‘advert’, which State House described as “misleading,” coincided with the expiry of Mirundi’s contract.

“There have been misleading reports on social media platforms and some media outlets insinuating that there is a vacancy in State House for the post of Press Secretary,” said State House.

“The reports were based on a fraudulent advert that was posted on social media by unscrupulous elements seeking to cause confusion, anxiety and excitement among the public.”

Mirundi is controversial fellow well known for his relentless attacks on the opposition especially on radio stations.

He recently hinted on a ploy to kick him out of office: “There is a group of people who think they are nearer to God because of the tribes they belong to.  What those people fail to understand is that I did not apply for this job. I am a rich man and I have a career beyond working for government.”

Mirundi, who regularly describes himself as the ‘President’s barking dog,’ said some individuals who have failed to impress the President want to see his exit from State House.

“I am very articulate when it comes to communication. I am an eloquent speaker and for me when it comes to the president, I do not serve him as a mercenary like some of these people. That is why I am the longest serving PPS.”

Insiders say Museveni intended to appoint Col Shaban Bantariza to replace Mirundi only for the army officer to be accused of corrupt tendencies during his reign as head of National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi.
