Soldier Charged for Failing to Protect War Materials

The Makindye General Court Martial has remanded to Makindye Military barracks prison a 38year old Capt Rogers Ahumuza a UPDF Officer attached to CMI after charging him of failure to protect war materials.

Prosecution alleges that 2nd February 2015 at Arua Park in Kampala Capt Ahumuza gave 45 rounds of SMG ammunition to a one Gumisiriza, ask an unauthorized person.

The state prosecutor, shop Major Raphael Mugisha asked court to grant them a longer adjournment to enable them finalize the ongoing investigations.

Defense counsel Mr. John Matovu however, protested this request, on grounds that his client has been behind bars for a long time.

“My client was earlier on released from prison by an order from High Court but without clear reasons he was rearrested and taken back to Makindye Barracks and yet up to now we have not been made aware of the charges against him,” he said.

The counsel further asked court to grant them a shorter adjournment so that they can be able to prepare for bail application of his client.

LT Gen Andrew GUTTI has adjourned the matter to 8th August 2016 for the bail application
