Uganda’s men basketball team cruised into the 2017 Zone V championship semifinals with a comprehensive victory against Burundi.
The Silverbacks booked a berth into the semifinals by outwitting Burundi 99-54 on Tuesday at the ongoing Zone V Afro basket qualifiers in Cairo Egypt to register their second win after victory against Somalia in the opening game.

There seemed a bit of competition in the opening quarter with Burundi marching Uganda for pace but the silverbacks eventually pulled away to claim the quarter 18-13.
Uganda turned ruthless in the second period scoring 20 points while limiting their counterparts to a meager 4 points and took a 38-17 lead at halftime.
It was even worse for the Burundians after recess with the Silverbacks adding 29 points while Burundi managed 18 points in the third period.
The victory was further cemented with 32 more points for Uganda to finish top of group B with maximum points and now await the runner up in group A at the semifinal stage.
City Oilers’ Otim Jonah had a game high 16 points for Uganda while Jean Hakizimana had a team high 14 points for Burundi who play Somalia to determine who finishes second in group B.
The finalists at the Zone V championship will qualify for the 2017 Afro Basket champion to be held in August this year in Congo Brazzaville.
