Besigye insisted that his campaign of defiance will proceed as planned, irrespective of threats from security chiefs.

“We shall not accept to adhere to any directive that is unlawful or any law that deviates from the Universal Human Rights,” charged Besigye.

The FDC strongman over the weekend said he has thrice been rigged out of the presidential race but warned that this time, “We are not going to leave the football pitch if we manage to score. No one is going to steal our victory.”

Such remarks have raised concerns that Besigye could be quietly preparing his supporters for a revolution.

In Kyegegwa today, Besigye insisted that, “Our campaign is standing on four legs of defiance, liberation, restructuring of state institutions and social-economic transformation.”

He said his campaign is nothing but a “people’s struggle” and urged supporters to raise funds for the cause.

The first ten will recruit ten others and the pattern will continue, according to Besigye.

This is intended to raise seven million supporters countrywide and “ensure that our victory in 2016 is in the bag.”

On facing arrest for telling people to occupy a gazetted forest in Eastern Uganda, FDC described Museveni’s warning as “irresponsible” and “careless”.

“Whereas Besigye commands a lot of support in Bududa, he neither ordered them to occupy the forest nor does he have the powers to do so,” said the party.
