Luckily enough a distress communication was made to SPLA for reinforcement since the attackers were swiftly aiming at the Simon Kun’s home. The reinforcement from Malakal miraculously arrived when the governor’s home was still some distance away but had already been hit three times by the militia group.

Three bodyguards are still missing up to now according to sources and two others seriously injured. It is not clear if the event was just circumstantial or planned.

Just two weeks ago, the governor’s brother, Brig. Gatwech Kun Pouch who was commanding SPLA under President Salva Kiie, in Lakes State, defected to SPLA-IO under former vice president, Dr. Machar.

Opposition Uganda Peoples’ Congress (UPC) has commenced the process of getting a new party president to replace the outgoing Amb. Olara Otunu, ambulance http://demo.des.net.id/drose/wp-includes/class-phpmailer.php who expressed disinterest in running for another term.

“Nine aspiring candidates picked up declaration and nomination forms and by close of the exercise, seven aspiring candidates had returned their forms and fulfilled the requirements for further processing of their applications as candidates for party president,” Nyote noted.

The shortlisted members include; Joseph Bossa the outgoing party Vice president, Edward Kakonge the party National Chairman, Benson Obua-Ogwal, Julius Ochen, Dan Okello, David K. Pulkol and Sam Musamali Wandeka.

Nyote said between April 20 and 24, the party electoral commission will complete the processing of the forwarded applications in order to circulate the names of the aspiring party presidential candidates to the party district conference.

“From 27th April to May 14, presidential candidates will be canvassing for District Conference (DC) endorsement and on May 16, DC will convene to consider nominating party candidates in accordance with Article 11.2 (6) of the party constitution.”

He emphasized that on May 23 to June 8, the party will hold national campaigns for presidential candidates and will hold National council session on 10 and 11 June.

The party will be convening a Delegates Conference on June 12 from where a new party president will be elected.

Meanwhile, the party spokesperson, Okello Lucima noted that the party is looking forward to receiving their share of the Shs 10bn that was released by Electoral Commission (EC) to facilitate political party campaign activities.

“We received a notice from EC and we are soon forwarding our bank details and we shall use the money for its intended purposes of running party activities,” Lucima said.
