Prosecution told court that after raping her, Ayebazibwe stayed in the house till morning but as she went outside, he once again grabbed her and forced her again into the house, which prompted her to sound an alarm that attracted Fred Byabagambi, the Nyabisoni Catholic Church catechist to come in for help.
The suspect then fled but was shortly apprehended by residents and taken to police.
Ayebazibwe pleaded guilty to the offence and asked court to be given a lenient sentence, saying that he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol.
While delivering his judgment, Justice Kawuma said Ayebazibwe should have offered protection to the elderly woman but not turning against her to commit such a horrible act.
He nonetheless sentenced him to 21 years rather than the befitting 40 years for not wasting court’s time. Having been on remand for three years, the convict will now serve 18 years.
