He said rebranding should enhance the bank’s corporate reputation, and also modernize the governance and business practices of the bank.

UDB, a non-deposit taking finance institution which started operations in 1972 rebranded to reposition itself in the competitive financial markets.

“Rebranding has to go beyond the new logo. This will require genuine commitment, hard work and forward-looking leadership,” said Rugunda.

The Premier said it was necessary to capitalize the bank with enough cash to enable it execute its development mandate.

Rugunda said, “Our interest as government would be to ensure that the funds allocated for recapitalization are properly utilized and directed to the priority areas that bring and deliver the greatest benefit to the people of Uganda.”

The Minister of State for Finance in charge of Privatization, Aston Kajara said government had agreed to capitalize UDB with 500 billion shillings to enable it execute its development mandate effectively.
