Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has called for the various political parties in the country to be tolerant to each other, web especially during elections.
The Premier said only when the various political parties exercise restraint and tolerance to each other, will government be willing to listen to them.
Cooperation between the ruling government and the opposition parties, he said is essential to national peace, and development.
“Political tolerance is not the responsibility of one man, but everyone. The opposition side also need to be willing to listen to government. That is the starting point to ironing out our differences,” he said.
Dr Rugunda made the remarks on Monday while speaking at the national consultative forum for political parties and political organizations- NCF for Kigezi sub region that was held at White Horse Inn in Kabale municipality.
The event was organized by the Electoral Commission under the theme, “Exercising political maturity under a multi-party political dispensation”
Dr Rugunda, whom is also the chairperson of the national consultative forum for political parties and political organizations, said if it wasn’t for the tolerance so far expressed after the last elections, political party members would not be sitting together on events like this.
He said that political parties need to come together more, be democratic amongst themselves and be able to communicate with other organizations for the common good and development of the country.
