Rugby Premiership: Week One Round Up

Defending champions Betway Kobs started the title defence with a comfortable win against Elephants

The National Rugby Premiership League rolled off over the weekend with several fixtures on different grounds across the country.

As usual, ailment Betway Kobs and Hima Cement trounced their opponents while Entebbe Mongers defeated Toyota Buffaloes.

The Mongers attained the victory of the weekend overcoming a depleted Toyota Buffaloes 35-07 at the Kyadondo rugby grounds on Saturday.

And like it has been a norm for Buffaloes to start the season on a slow note, pharm the trend continued as they lost to Mongers, the same opponent they lost to in the opening game last season.

Joseph Wandicho and Adrian Wasswa grabbed two tries apiece while Joseph Bulago crossed the white chalk once to help Mongers defeat Buffaloes 35-07.

Defending champions Betway Kobs had a walk in the park on their trip to Northern Uganda defeating minnows Gulu Elephants 67-07 to kick start the title defence on a high.

Michael Amolo had a double brace of tries for Kobs, while Joseph Aredo registered a hat trick before Keith Seruyange too contributed two tries.

Ivan Mugirya and Emmanuel Ogwal also grabbed a try each. Their eternal rivals Hima Cement Heathens too had an easy ride against Rams on Saturday winning 61-00.

Shell Rimula Rhinos who look the side that will threaten the long standing duopoly of Heathens and Kobs overcame Mutoni Warriors 40-13.

In the other game played, Buzz Pirates defeated Makerere Impis 27-08 despite a slow start that saw them lead 05-00 by halftime.
