Gunmen yesterday morning shot at a truck carrying merchandise in Masindi District before making off with Shs25 million.
According Patrick Jakolia, the truck driver, the incident happened in Nyakatoogo village on Masindi-Kigumba road at around 7.30pm.
“The vehicle was from Kiryandongo district after delivering merchandise. The assailants came from behind on the motorcycle and fired twice in the air and another on the tyre, forcing me to stop before they ran away with the bag containing the money,” he said.
Jakolia said the assailants took advantage of the bumpy road.
“We usually drive slowly on that section of the road because it is bad,” he said.
Mr Buule Muhammad, the owner of the vehicle, said there have been several attempts to steal goods from his vehicle before.
The District Police Commander, Edwin Atukunda, said they are investigating the matter.
The incident comes a week after Francis Mugisa, a driver, was shot in Kirasa village by unknown gunmen before they fled with Shs30 million.
