RDC Warns Kabarole on Tribal Clashes

President Museveni has Monday camped in Busia to drum up support for NRM candidate Stephen Wanyama Oundo ahead of Thursday’s LC-V vote.

In another development, President Museveni today paid tribute to the late Danny Hyuha Haumba for his contribution to the Banyole people in Butaleja district and to Uganda, especially for writing books and for educating his children.

“I salute the late Hyuha and also salute his contribution which is a challenge to us because he has done his part,” said Museveni.

“I did not know Hyuha very well but from the reports, he was a very active member of the Banyole and for Uganda especially for writing books.”

Museveni said the deceased educated a lot of people and the large number of people is a good testimony. He also educated his children.

“By leading the children and educating them, Hyuha is not dead. Children are very important when they are educated,” he said.

The President made the remarks at the commemoration of the late Hyuha at the deceased’s home in Kachonga B village in Butaleja District.

The late Hyuha was husband to Hon. Dorothy Hyuha former Deputy Secretary General of NRM, presently a member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

He passed away on December 9 at the age of 67 years.

The President noted that although late Hyuha had died when still young he had done his work for the family, Uganda and to the education sector.

Mr. Museveni said he has known Mrs. Dorothy Hyuha for being active in the NRM Party adding that it was the reason they campaigned for her to get the post of the Deputy Secretary General of NRM Party along with many other appointments in government including serving as Minister without Portfolio.

The President urged the children of late Hyuha and the people of Bunyole to emulate him in memory of his immense contribution to the development of the area.

Regarding development President Museveni stressed to the people of Butaleja the importance of undertaking commercial farming on large scale and said that was one of the ways to eliminate household poverty.

He re-emphasized proper assessment of the production activities people have to undertake to gauge properly the profitability of their ventures. He identified agriculture without calculations and land fragmentation as the major causes of social problems in Uganda and Africa.

Mrs. Dorothy Hyuha thanked the President for giving vehicles to Butaleja district religious leaders. She said her late husband worked with different organizations that endeared him to many people.

Ntimba said the suspects also tried to take the life of Haruna on January 3, 2015 but that their plans did not bear fruit as the Muslim cleric’s guards put up stiff physical resistance in Matugga off Bombo Road. .

The presiding magistrate ordered the accused to return to court on January 29 for mention of the case.

He advised them against taking plea as their crime is of capital nature and can only be heard by the High Court.

The suspects are also accused of another count of terrorism and having links with several terrorist groups.

Fighting occurred among drunken youth during the after-party at a wedding in Kabaale village, attracting police’s attention.

Cops from a nearby station intervened in a bid to arrest the situation but later started shooting as the scuffle got out of hand.

Senyama was shot in the right leg and is now under medical attention at Rakai hospital.

Officer Ochan was arrested immediately and according to information from his superiors, he had not been deployed at this place.

“We are inquiring why the police officers resorted to shooting at people attending a party,” said the deputy police spokesperson, Polly Namaye.

“Meanwhile we have the OC in custody, because the DPC at the station says he was in a wrong place at the time.”

Ochan joins Sembabule chief detective Geoffrey Mwiima who was arrested on January 2 over abuse of office. Mwiima reportedly let suspects out of cells before stealing their possessions kept at the station as exhibits.

Kabarole Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Stephen Asiimwe has tasked the clergy in Rwenzori region not to sit and watch people die but preach the gospel against tribal conflicts.

“I was astonished by the manner in which the Rwenzururu youth died in the 5th July 2014 attack. The deaths were resulting from the tribal clashes or conflicts between the Bamba and Bakonzo. RDC Asiimwe asked the clergy to fight the rampant tribal conflicts in the region and spread the gospel of peace and harmony.

He was speaking at the opening of the annual conference for the clergy and their spouses drawn from Ruwenzori dioceses.

The 4-day conference was held at Nyakasura School in Kabarole district.

Mr Asiimwe said, “There is need for the religious leaders to team up with security agencies in mobilizing the people towards peace building”.

He added that tribal conflicts affect development and lead to murder, destruction of property and displacement of people which needs to be controlled by different partners.

The Bishop of Ruwenzori diocese Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo and Rt. Rev. Bishop Edward Bamucwanira of east Ruwenzori tasked the clergy to reach the grassroots level and empower their flock spiritually and economically for the church to develop and sustain itself.

Rev. Canon Hosea Masiko of West Ankole diocese asked the religious leaders to understand God more for other people to know Him.
