As part of the company’s activities to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, Umeme has gifted the Muslim community in Kawempe- Mbogo with food and household items as a gesture of support to the Muslims observing Ramadan.
The items were handed over to the Muslims on Friday June 22 at a function held at the Kawempe mosque.
Speaking at the handover, Umeme Stakeholder Manager, Sponsorships and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Stella Nkini Ndiwalana said, “We are happy to join hands with our Muslim brothers and sisters here at Uganda’s oldest mosque in Kawempe Mbogo as they observe the month of Ramadhan.”
“Ours is a small contribution and we hope it will go a long way in assisting the families as they break the fast and celebrate Eid,” she added.
Umeme has over time been involved in CSR activities with the most recent one being a free medical camp in Mbale.
Kawempe Mbogo Councillor, Ramadhan Lukwago who received the items on behalf of the community thanked Umeme for the heartfelt contribution.
He appreciated the company’s generosity and highlighted that it was a good gesture for private companies to come out and join Muslims as they observed the holy month of Ramadan.
