The tentative programme for the burial of former Uganda People’s Congress Party National Chairman, Maj. Edward Rurangaranga has been released.
The veteran opposition politician who participated in the formation of the party that led Uganda to independence together with Apollo Milton Obote (RIP), collapsed on Monday evening and shortly died at his rural home in Kitagata in Sheema district.
The body of Rurangaranga is expected to be brought to Kampala on today.
On Tuesday, the leadership of UPC sat and resolved that the body of Rurangaranga will be brought direct to Uganda House today at 2:00pm to 4pm to enable Party members and the general public pay their last respect to the late.
Thursday at 10am the body shall be taken to Parliament to lie in State and at 2:00pm a special session to pay tribute by Members of Parliament.
Rurangaranga served as the State Minister for Local Government from 1981 to 1985 when the Obote regime was toppled in a coup d’état led by Tito Okello Lutwa and Bazilo Okello.
On Friday, there is going to be a Church Service at All Saints Nakasero at 9.00am and in the afternoon the body shall be taken to Kitagata.
The burial is set to take place on Saturday in Kitagata, Sheema district.
