Practicing Psychologists in Uganda Move to Form Umbrella Body

Members in the practice of psychology in Uganda are looking to establish an umbrella body to make the discipline more professional organized in addition to being legally recognized.

For a long time, psychologists in Uganda have practiced in numerous classes; applied, industrial, counseling, education, political and sports with lack of a collective voice. All these rely on psychology as
a therapy. However Parliament recently asked that they form a body before they can legally be established.

Dr. Kagari also highlighted a need to undertake a review of the education curriculum so as to ensure qualified personnel.

The Uganda Council of Psychologists is currently constituted by at least 1,500 counselors according to the body’s spokesperson Ali Male.
