Last month, side effects a video went viral in which a police truck was seen knocking down an innocent person who was following Besigye’s vehicle at Kalerwe before another an unidentified plain-clothed man kicked him.

“We have made efforts to hunt for the driver for some time and we have been able to identify him as Constable Benon Masiko,” Kaweesi told journalists on Monday.

The driver attached to Kira Road Police Station is force number 45109 and was on the fateful day driving patrol number UP 4832 that was shown knocking one of Besigye’s supporters.

“We shall do whatever it takes to see that whoever acts in an unprofessional manner is not protected but rather brought to explain his actions,” the new police publicist said.

The Police Professional Standards unit boss Fortunate Habyara said it had taken them long to be able to identify the driver because of lack of direct evidence but applauded the media for being supportive in their bid to ensure  police officers  behave and act professionally.

“I would like to call upon anyone with information about unprofessional conduct of our officers to come up and give the evidence to us. We shall not victimize them but treat the information with confidentiality,” said Habyara.

He noted that the process of justice has started to ensure whoever acted contrary to the police standards is brought to book
