Three suspects in in last week’s murder of a prominent businessman in Kadagi district yesterday took themselves to police, this confessing to the crime.
Police was for days hunting for one of their own Yusuf Mbabazi, capsule who is attached to Kabasekende police post and his two sons in connection with the murder.
The trio is said to have murdered 78 year old businessman Yakobo Baguma, a resident of Kyabagogo village Butumba in Muhorro town, who they accused of cannibalism.
These took a decision to hand themselves to police, according to District Police Commander David Otabongo.
Yakobo was fatally cut on his head and neck and other parts of the body which was found lying in a pool of blood on Sunday evening at around 8:00pm in his home.
DPC Otabongo declined to divulge the names of officer Mbabazi’s sons since they are minors.
Otabongo said after the crime, the suspects went into hiding in Kyenjojo district where they called him from, informing him about their decision to surrender to police; but feared being lynched by angry residents since Kagadi Police Station is near Muhorro town.
He said the suspects will be transferred to Kagadi Police Station for investigation once their security is guaranteed.
The DPC cautioned locals against mob justice.
