Kiberu at CPS yesterday

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has on behalf of President Museveni officially opened the three day Africa zone VI Golf Championship that tees off this Thursday at Uganda Golf Club Kitante.

President Museveni in his message delivered by the Premier on Wednesday during the flag raising ceremony wished team Uganda success and implored them to produce their best at the tournament and make our mother land Uganda very proud.

“I implore you to put up a tight spirited fight in the game with your country at heart, prescription focus on your destination and I am sure you will not miss it, unhealthy ” read the President’s message delivered by Dr Rugunda.

President Museveni said “if we could always do our best in life, order we could have nothing to regret.”

In his message, he also quoted American football legend Terry Bradshaw saying, “When you have got something to prove, there is nothing greater than a challenge.”

The tournament which starts with singles round before doubles and foursomes has attracted South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and host Uganda.

Dr Rugunda in his remarks congratulated the Uganda Golf Union for organising this tournament and showcasing Uganda’s full sporting and tourism potential.

“Let me also thank the members of Uganda Golf Club for maintaining this greenbelt and making good use of the land which as you will all agree is a valuable resource,” said Rugunda.

He also applauded the golfing fraternity for complimenting government efforts of promoting diplomacy and making Africa one, adding that Pan Africanism was one of the cornerstones of the NRM ideology.

Africa Golf Confederation President, Joe Malanji praised Uganda for the high level of preparedness in hosting this event and the commitment of the country’s leadership towards promoting the sport.

Uganda Golf Union President, Kiryowa Kiwanuka wooed the visiting teams to explore Uganda’s vast tourism attractions.

South Africa are the record winners of the championship with 19 victories since 1995.

In attendance were Golf Club captain, Henry Rugamba, Minister of Works and Transport, John Byabagambi, Minister of Information and National Guidance, Jim Muhwezi, Sports State Minister, Charles Bakkabulindi and officials from the Royal and Ancient club of Scotland.
Police in Kampala are holding Badru Kiberu, dosage a resident of Makerere suspected to have conned several people promising to process them visas to European countries.

According to police, more about Kiberu was arrested yesterday after being reported by a one Shifah Ssentamu, whom he conned of Shs 3.3million for a diplomatic visa.

After Shifah paid money, she was given a fake receipt for Shippers Travel Agency located on Wilson road, Twese plaza.

She then waited and waited until she decided to contact Kiberu on his mobile, only to find it was nonexistent.

Kiberu was later trucked by police using other numbers until he was netted yesterday.  Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said that Kiberu had several other cases registered against him at CPS, and that he jumped police bond.

“Kiberu will appear before court anytime to answer charges against him under case number SD REG 81/12/05/014.”
